Richard (Rich) Gravel joined Heddle Shipyards in October 2022 in the role of Vice President of Government Programs. Prior to this, Rich was a senior naval officer as a Maritime Engineer, having completed a 35-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN); he retired at navy Captain rank in 2014.

After his retirement from the navy, Rich started his own consulting business, primarily providing Business Development and bid submission support to Canadian and international clients.

From 2018 to 2022, Rich was at Thales Canada as the AJISS (AOPS and JSS In-service Support) Halifax Manager, and Coastal Operations Manager.

Rich’s naval experiences include Naval Attaché to the USA in Washington, DC, Commanding Officer of Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott in the RCN Dockyard in Halifax, Deputy Project Manager for the HALIFAX Class Modernization / Frigate Life Extension Project, and an exchange with the Royal Navy in the UK. Rich has a Bachelor of Computer Engineering, and a Master of Defence Studies, from the Royal Military College of Canada and the Canadian Defence Academy.

Rich is part of the Executive Team at Heddle Shipyards which is the team responsible for executing on the long-term vision and strategy for the company. The executive team consists of a balanced mix of Heddle veterans and recent additions to the team that have a strong track record of success.
