Over the last three months, we have all faced challenges dealing with an unprecedented global pandemic. Our personal and professional lives have been turned upside down as we adjust to living and doing business under social distancing guidelines and the possibility of contracting and spreading COVID-19.

We were fortunate to be deemed an essential business, but ultimately, the decision to remain open was based solely on one factor – our people. We all have families to support, and our livelihoods are dependent on the work in our shipyards. That being said, Heddle Shipyards has implemented strict processes and procedures to ensure that our people, suppliers, customers and their families are safe.

Our society owes a collectively thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, first responders, grocery store staff and everyone who worked on the front lines to keep our world moving forward in the face of COVID-19. Heddle has its own frontline workers, and in the coming weeks, we will showcase their bravery and contribution to keeping us safe at work.

We are proud to showcase Alexandra Tremblay.

Alexandra joined Heddle Shipyards last August as a Human Resources Intern on a four-month co-op from Niagara College and quickly became part of the Heddle family. In January 2020, Alexandra joined Heddle full-time as our Human Resources Coordinator and three months later, found herself on the front lines of the global pandemic.

During the entire stretch of our busiest season, Alexandra served as the gatekeeper at our Port Weller Dry Docks facility (this was in addition to all of her regular duties). Alexandra was on Heddle’s front line of defense by checking temperatures of anyone who entered the shipyard. Her hard work and diligence allowed Heddle Shipyards to continue to operate safely during the height of the crisis.

We are grateful for Alexandra and all of our people who have bravely and safely continued to show up to work despite living through the defining crisis of our generation.

Thank you, Alexandra, for everything you have done to keep our people safe.
