Since March, we have all had to adjust our way of life because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Ontario and Canada have begun to reopen gradually, COVID-19 continues to be a severe threat to our society. As our communities and workplaces slowly move into different reopening stages, we must remain committed to protecting ourselves and those around us from the virus.
From the beginning of the global pandemic, Heddle Shipyards instituted rigorous policies and procedures to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19. Our people have and continue to remain committed to social distancing, enhanced screening measures, and increased personal hygiene. One individual, in particular, Gary Ung, has been the model of diligence and commitment to safety at our Hamilton Shipyard.
Gary Ung, born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, Joined Heddle in December 2019 at the height of our winter works season. In March, he was asked to take on the role of sanitizing all office spaces and common areas at the Shipyard to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many would shy away from such a task but not Gary. Every day at 0700, Gary begins his rounds and goes from station to station, ensuring all frequently used surfaces are thoroughly sanitized.
Gary and his positive attitude have become a staple of Heddle’s Hamilton Shipyard. You can set your clock to his routine, never missing a day or overlooking a spot, Gary is the definition of what it means to remain diligent during these uncertain times. “It has to be done either way,” Gary said matter-of-factly, “Hopefully, I can help out.”
We would like to thank Gary and all of our people for remaining committed, diligent and most importantly, positive during these unprecedented times. We will emerge from this situation stronger and better than before because of Gary and those like him, who never let their guard down and keep their eyes to the bright future ahead of us at Heddle Shipyards.
Thank you, Gary, for everything you have done to keep our people happy and safe!
